Jacob Bellens (vocals, guitar, etc.) and Anders Mathiasen (backing vocal & guitar) have composed and played together for ten years, and together with Peder Bacher (programming), the three formed MURDER in 2000. The following year, drummer Jesper Elnegaard joined the band. After a turbulent period involving various record companies, One Year from Now it’s My Birthday, finally arrived in March 2005 on the reborn label, Lidocaine. The record was the culmination of a long and tearing process, and MURDER subsequently went on standby. The process was a large part of the reason that Jacob Bellens embarked on his side project, I Got You On Tape (Auditorium).
In 2006, MURDER was signed to the newly founded Good Tape Records, at which time it became a duet composed of Jacob Bellens and Anders Mathiasen. All of the songs were now written in collaboration, and instead of picking up where the last record left off, MURDER has endeavoured on their own special interpretation of New Folk on Stockholm Syndrome. Jacob Bellens’ characteristic voice is the focal point of a largely acoustic, 70s-inspired sound that invokes parallels with Nick Drake and a late Johnny Cash. The music is sincere and straightforward, with equal parts Nordic melancholy and heart-warming Americana.
Stockholm Syndrome remains in the sombre and special song writing style that is MURDER’s trademark. Gripping stories told with captivating melodies and this time with an (almost) total lack of drums! The unarticulated vocals are accompanied sensitively by cello, double bass, trombone, banjo, marimba and glockenspiel.
The record features appearances by some of Denmark’s most interesting musicians, including Mads Hyhne (Bugpowder), Jacob Funch (I Got You On Tape), and Morten Svenstrup (Under Byen). Furthermore, their old childhood friend Oline Sohrbeck-Nørh provides a fantastically beautiful guest vocal! The album is produced by the bearded madman, Frederik “A Kid Hereafter” Thaae.
The album was very well received by the critics, and several declared “Stockholm Syndrome” as the best album of the year. The critics love the album and gave MURDER two nominations at the annual critic award show; “Steppeulven”. One for “Hope of the Year” and one for “Best Vocalist”
When MURDER started there national tour in January 2007, it resulted in one sold-out concert after another. At the same time 3 very important live gigs was confirmed. “Radiohuset Rocker”: Danish National Radio yearly tribute to alternative music. “SPOT-Festival” and “Roskilde Festival”.
Live the band is supported by cello, doublebass and a 2. Guitar/banjo.
